Installing A4 rivets to hold side skins to 750 SD top skin longerons

Building The SD 750 Fuselage – FR-09.3

Today started with riveting the A4 rivets down the length of the 750 SD fuselage to rivet the side skins to the top skin longerons. Generally speaking the alignment of the skins with the longerons was not bad and the process went fairly quickly.

You will notice that I have clecos every 4th rivet. This may be overkill but I would prefer to use too many clecos than have rippling in the skin / misalignment.

You will note that in the middle of this process I decided to move the benches around a little to give a better view to the cameras and also to get set for adding the front of the fuselage / cockpit area onto the front of the rear fuselage.

Although it shows A5 rivets in the top of the skin across the HT frame and also in the longerons on the drawings, if you put rivets into the longerons you won’t be able to attach the stabilizer brackets later. The IPL sheet also doesn’t reference riveting in this area so I left them out for the time being.
