Installing the rudder hinges on the 750 SD rear fuselage

Building The SD 750 Fuselage – FR-10

I am continuing here with the assembly of the 750 SD fuselage with the rudder hinges.

For my kit, the upper rudder hinge was drilled for A5 rivets but the drawing shows A3 bolts in each of the corners and the location of the hinge bushing was also not drilled to the correct size so I had to do that too.

For the middle and lower brackets, the centre hole had been enlarged to an AN5 bolt size, 5/16s, to allow for the addition of a tie-down eye, which was not included in my kit and Roger offered to send me one. The holes in the skin and shim were A4 so they had to be drilled out for the 5/16th tie-down bolt, and the remaining rivet holes had to be drilled out to A5 from A4.

As I had not previously primed the outside of the skin I took the opportunity to do that and also primed the area on the side skins where the stabilizer brackets attach.

As of right now I have attached the lower and middle hinge brackets but still need to drill out the top longerons for the AN3-6A bolts called for to attach the top rudder hinge.

I also have not riveted the horizontal stabilizer in place as yet because I did not see any instruction to go ahead and do so. The last instruction I saw was to cleco the brackets to the sides of the fuselage and the next line in the IPL files says A5 in the left column but it doesn’t say to actually rivet the brackets in place.
