Building The 750 SD Fuselage – 1

When I was building the Zenith 750 SD tail I found the IPL files that are meant to pass as assembly directions quite frustrating. As a consequence I edited those instructions as I went through the build process and provided a copy of my edits to both Zenith and a couple of other builders. This was very time consuming and more frustrating because my effort was not used to update the IPL files for the tail. As Zenith has a copyright on the IPL description files I can’t offer them here so I have decided to NOT update the IPL description files but rather to create my on build instructions as part of my log, available here for anyone that wants to follow them. Worst case, I will have a detailed build log.

With that in mind, I will include some of the numbering in the IPL files, perhaps the sheet numbers, for each post I create and that will make my log easier to relate to the steps in the IPL files / process of assembly.

This is by way of introduction to my continuing 750 SD assembly, starting with the fuselage.

I have not found a “suggested” build order other than most people seem to start with the rudder which is included in the tail kit which I have completed.

For my fuselage I opted for the central / dual yoke, dual brakes and the Unpanel® option. Most likely I will not purchase an Unpanel from Avilution, the owners of the trademark, as I have emailed them 3 times and never received a response. If that’s how they respond to sales inquiries then I am pretty sure their customer service is not going to be something I will be comfortable with. Fortunately, there are a number of open source projects like https://www.makerplane.org/ https://experimentalavionics.com/ and https://huvver.com with which I can build my own EFIS system – and probably save a lot of money in the process..

As I have already started work on assembling the 750 SD fuselage I will create a post with a day or two describing my first steps.

Thanks for your interest. I hope you find my log useful.
